Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT)

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for Couples is an evidence-based approach and one of the most extensively researched forms of couples therapy. Its goal is to help partners rebuild a secure emotional bond. EFT is based on attachment theory, which holds that closeness, emotional security, and connection are fundamental human needs.

Rather than looking for someone to blame or focusing solely on resolving conflicts, EFT helps partners understand the fears, unmet needs, and longing for closeness that often underlie arguments, emotional distance, or defensive behaviors. The aim is to identify and break recurring negative interaction patterns and create a more open, secure, and emotionally connected way of relating to one another.

EFT helps couples to:

  • recognize and change relationship patterns that create distress;
  • express emotions and needs in a safe and constructive way;
  • improve communication and mutual understanding;
  • rebuild trust, intimacy, and emotional connection.

Research shows that more than 70% of couples experience significant improvement following EFT, with positive changes often lasting for years after therapy.
